Kathleen “Sam” Anne Dundon, age 54, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019 at her residence with her loving husband by her side. She was born on November 8, 1964 in Binghamton, New York to Donald and Theresa (Dobo) Dundon.
First and foremost, Sam was a child of God. When she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on February 23, 2018, she looked into her doctor’s eyes and said, “God’s got it.” During her battle with this debilitating disease, Sam remained true to a message placed upon her heart during her Baptism by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She would bend the ear of all that would hear, her professions of love, grace and faith even as she grew closer to heaven’s door. She beseeched loved ones and strangers alike to surrender to God’s grace and the message in her heart.
Sam is survived by her beloved husband, Wayne A. Dundon of Indianapolis, Indiana; her loving stepchildren, Michael, Jason, Rebecca, and Patrick; her loving sisters, Coleen, Corinne, and Heather; her loving brother, Patrick; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Mount Pleasant Christian Church, 381 North Bluff Road, Greenwood, Indiana 46142. Friends may visit one hour prior to the Memorial Service, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Indiana Funeral Care, Greenwood Chapel entrusted with care.

The Beach In The Sky
© Jackie Bush Holcomb
I closed my eyes,
Felt the warmth of the sun on my face.
All the grief and pain
Was simply too hard to erase.
I could smell the ocean in the air.
I opened my eyes only to see you far off in the distance.
I knew it was you there.
I called out your name
As I ran to you.
My prayers had been answered.
It was all too good to be true.
Beautiful as always,
You smiled and held me so near.
This moment was happening;
It was all perfectly clear.
You laughed and said,
“I’m happy you’re here. Welcome to my beach in the sky,
But you can’t stay forever,”
As a big sister always knows why.
“You see there is a little place at my beach in the sky.
It’s called Heaven and that’s where I live.
I am happy and content
And have no one else to forgive.”
“I dance in the sun and play in the waves.
I collect seashells as I watch the sunrise and set
All of my days.”
“I know no more hate, sorrow or grief.
I only know love and peace.
And I stand firmly with my God on that belief.”
“You have not yet learned what it takes.
You can’t be with me on my beach in the sky.
Just because you think you have faith,
You still have not learned why.”
“Go back to your world and do what you can.
Be kind and gentle to each and every man.
Have a compassionate heart.
Remember my words as we now must part.”
“Little things matter.
Be the best you can be.
Take great care with others
As you would a seashell at sea.
Be helpful, be strong
And never ask why.
That’s all it takes
To reach my beach in the sky.”
I opened my eyes
And felt the mean spring winter cold.
It was all an illusion,
Everything I had just been told.
The snow flurries fell.
I was not on a beach
But was back in my hell.
It could have all been a dream
Until I looked down
And discovered a seashell.
Forever and Always,
Love Patrick 💖🌹

The Racer’s for Christ organization and I were asked to do a baptism at the U.S. Nationals a few years ago, and Sam was baptized at that time. Over the years, I have seen her grow in her faith and the love she had for Christ. A few months ago, Helen and I had lunch with Sam and Kat – a special time. What a beautiful lady. We are thankful to call them our friends. Love, Hugs, and Prayers, Lee and Helen

So many have mentioned how much Sam loved God. I only had the opportunity to get to know Sam and Kat after her diagnosis and it has been a blessing to me. Both Sam and Kat brought glory to God as they walked this hard road together. Sam’s presence will be missed here on this earth, but I rejoice she is a new creation singing with her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jim & Megan Stebbins says
To Kat, Patrick, and all Sam’s family and friends:
We had the pleasure of knowing you during our overlap time on the road at various events. And have gotten to know you better through your sharing of joys and sorrows this past year. We prayed for healing, and God granted partial healing here and total healing in Heaven. Oh, but look at the legacy Sam left behind: leading the way in life right on into eternal life! We think of the wisdom God teaches in the book of Job, and to paraphrase: “Through all this Sam (and Kat) did not sin nor did she blame God.” This is a powerful testimony to the power of Jesus in your lives. Thank you. We pray that the God of all comfort comforts you, now and always.
Todd & Julie Smith says
We will miss your sweet smile and kind words. Always a great time catching up with you and Kat at the track. Kat, you and your families are in our thoughts and prayers.
Frenchy Gouvier and family says
A Saint has been called home….
In the course of the roman circus that is the car auction experience, she and husband Kat rose above the insanity and maintained their kindness, humility and humanity. They both gave strength to those of us around to do likewise. Indeed, Sam remains kind of person I aspire to be like, in life’s adventures. A pure spirit, a child of God. We have been blessed to have known you. Our thoughts and prayers be with you all. May we meet again when our time is through.
God bless us, everyone
